THE LIBERATION THIEF – a poem by Keng

lotusEach time I look

Upon the reflection in the mirror

Sometimes I see a face of woe

And other times I see one full of glow

But hard as I try

My wish is not to see

The self cherishing sight

The thief of liberation

For countless eons

Casting shadows

On every action of body, speech and mind

And thus with no anger, no rage nor vituperation

I pour scorn upon mind’s false nature

And long to embrace its true essence once again

Like the lily’s on the muddy pond
